      What is a Snakebite piercing?

When the lower lip is pierced twice, once on each side, it is known as a snakebite piercing. This results in two holes that resemble a snakebite.

This piercing may be accessorised with a variety of body jewellery, including labrets, rings, and barbells.

A chain connects the two pieces of jewellery, and they are occasionally linked by a tattoo. The piercing may be placed right on the lip or slightly below it in certain cases.

This style of piercing is quite popular and is a very straightforward process. To guarantee good healing and avoid harm, like with any body piercings, certain basic measures must be performed.

The snakebite piercing, like other lip and mouth piercings, heals rapidly and effortlessly. The mouth cavity has a plentiful blood flow, which aids in healing.

The piercing is performed similarly to other mouth piercings. The piercer designates the places to be pierced, then holds the lip with forceps while inserting the piercing needle and jewellery.

Although it is occasionally recommended to pierce one side, wait for it to heal, and then pierce the other, most snakebite piercings are done all at once. This approach may help to reduce edoema and speed up the healing process.

When it comes to snakebite piercings, swelling is a regular issue. The piercer may assist you in selecting suitable body jewellery that allows for the swelling to subside.

While the majority of swelling is mild and resolves quickly, jewellery that is overly tight may hinder the piercing from healing completely and can cause infection.

If a snakebite piercing produces a lot of discomfort, bleeding, or swelling, the jewellery is probably too tiny and has to be changed.

For a fresh piercing, proper cleaning is also critical. Medicated mouthwash should be used numerous times a day, especially after all meals, according to several piercing studios.

A saline solution or soap and water should be used to clean the exterior of the piercing. Oral piercings may shut quite fast, thus jewellery should not be removed for cleaning.

Biting on snakebite piercings or other oral jewellery may chip or break teeth, as well as create other oral ailments. When eating, take tiny chunks and chew gently.

Return to the piercing shop after the piercing is totally healed and there is no longer swelling, since poorly sized jewellery may also lead to oral injuries.

      Want a snakebite piercing?

The labret piercing, which is located in the centre of the face right below the lower lip, may be known to you. Snakebite piercings seem the same, yet there are two of them: one on each side of the face.

The snakebite piercing is noted for its stunning look; two huge piercings right below your lower lip are difficult to notice. The piercing's name originates from the appearance it gives you: as if you had snake fangs or as if a snake is biting you right there!

Snakebite piercings are an excellent choice for someone who wishes to drastically alter their appearance, give off a more "punk" attitude, or just desire a unique piercing.

But before you go to the piercing studio, there are a few things to think about when it comes to snakebite piercings.

      Snakebite Piercings:

      • Location: On the left and right sides, beneath the lip.
      • Placement: Located under the lip on the left and right side
      • Pricing: £40 to £100 per piercing
      • Pain level: "I would rate mine on the pain scale at 3/10"
      • Healing time: 4 to 6 weeks

Time to heal: 4 to 6 weeks

Follow-up: Use sterile saline solution to clean the exterior piercing site; avoid using hard toothpaste or mouthwash on the interior area and instead gargle with the same saline solution.

      What are snakebite piercings?

A snakebite piercing is really two lower lip piercings, commonly inserted on the left and right sides of the lip at an equal distance from the centre.

Snakebite piercings are divided into two categories: ring piercings and labret piercings.

These are the categories that they sound like: Ring piercings are jewelled snakebites that wrap around the whole lip, while labret piercings are two piercings that go from the outside to the inside of the mouth.

The piercing procedure is straightforward, but keep in mind that you must perform it twice! First, the exterior skin is cleansed and labelled to ensure that it is in the right place.

The skin is squeezed or held, with the lip pushed down and away from the rest of the mouth, until you're satisfied the markings are precisely where you want your snakebite piercings to go.

The clamps are then removed, and the jewellery is put in the aperture using a cannula needle pushed inward from the outer lip. Then you begin all over again.

      Pain and healing time

It's difficult to predict how painful a piercing will be since it relies on a number of things, including the piercer and your pain tolerance. Expect a 3/10 if you have a good pain tolerance.

Snakebites, like other piercings, take time to heal depending on how well they're cared for. However, to ensure that your piercing is entirely healed, you should wait at least 4 weeks, while up to 6 weeks is advised.

If you're concerned about discomfort, I suggest getting just one piercing at a time, since doing both at once might put your body under greater stress and make you more prone to things going wrong.

However, doing the piercings one at a time has its own set of challenges: you must ensure that any leftover swelling is gone or you risk having asymmetrical piercings.

      Cost of snakebite piercings

Remember to double everything by two when calculating the cost of snakebite piercings. Keep in mind that if your retailer charges you separately for the piercing and the jewellery, you'll have to pay both prices again.

While the piercing may seem to be within your budget, be sure you don't choose jewellery that is much more expensive than you can afford - or double-check that it was included in the price if it wasn't.

Notice that a piercing will cost about £50, including jewellery.

Because the cost of both piercings and jewellery varies widely based on the locale and jewellery selected, there is no simple answer for price. Indeed, some studios charge individually for the treatment and jewellery, while others offer a flat fee"

Cleaning snakebites with sterile salt water twice a day is the best method to keep them clean, just like any other piercing. It's also vital to stay away from strong toothpastes and mouthwashes, since they might irritate the new piercing.

How to maintain your snake bite piercing?

      Rest

Don't attempt to give a presentation the following day, for example. You may swell, experience discomfort, and be difficult to comprehend if you don't give your piercing sites - and, by extension, your lower lip - a break.

      Ice

The forehead piercing site might be relieved by gently putting an ice pack or other cold, contained object to your outer lip. Sucking on an ice cube might also help to relax the inner organs.

      Clean

Brush your teeth gently after each meal, and rinse your mouth with a saline solution - or, if completely healed, mouthwash - to keep it as clean as possible.

      Elevation

To assist in minimising swelling, sleep with a couple of pillows tucked behind your head. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines, such as ibuprofen, are also available over-the-counter to assist reduce swelling and discomfort.

It's a good idea to be careful of what you do with your lower lip in general. Smoking, drinking, and even eating spicy foods might irritate your new piercing.

      Side Effects of Piercing

Swelling at the piercing sites of snakebites is typical. If the swelling lasts more than a week after you've just pierced it, or if it comes abruptly, you should seek the advice of a piercer (if you're not sure what's wrong) or a doctor (if you're sure something's wrong).

Infection: If you do not take adequate care of your piercing, it is quite simple for it to get infected. Any rapid rise in pain, redness, or swelling after piercing should be taken seriously as an indication that you may be having infection signs.

An infection isn't always a huge mass leaking pus; it might be as simple as a sensitive, long-lasting swelling. Contact your piercer or a doctor if anything looks out of the ordinary.

Healing: Whether you maintain or remove your body piercings, they leave a lasting mark. Before being pierced, think about the possibility of scarring if you decide to remove your snakebite piercings. Infections and insufficient follow-up may also cause scarring.

      How to change snakebite piercings?

When you initially obtain snakebite piercings, the jewellery will be bigger to accommodate the swelling that occurs throughout the healing process. However, it is really advised that you replace the jewellery with something thinner after around 8 weeks.

Return to your piercer to find out what jewellery will work best for you since jewellery that fits correctly will not contact your teeth or other items in your mouth, which is beneficial for both dental hygiene and piercings.

You may start replacing the jewellery yourself after the piercing site is completely healed, which takes around 3 to 6 months.

To accomplish so, stand on the inside of the lip's flat base and twist the ball on the other end with your other hand. However, it's critical that you wait until it's entirely healed before changing the jewellery since doing so might impede recovery and cause issues.

What type of jewelry is used for snakebite piercings?

A labret bar is a conventional bar similar to those used in bars, however, it has a flat base on one end and a detachable ball on the other. A labret bar may be threaded internally or externally.

What jewelry material is used for snakebite piercings?

      Steel for Surgical Procedures

Most snakebite piercing jewellery is constructed of surgical steel, which is the most durable owing to its wide range of appearances and overall good quality. The only exception is that if you are allergic to nickel, which this metal may contain, you should avoid it.

      Titanium

For snakebite, medical-grade titanium is the ideal option since it has all of the qualities of steel but does not include nickel. If you're sensitive to nickel, this means you can have the same personalised appearance without the itch (plus bonus: it's lightweight!).

      Gold

For those who like the flair of non-silver jewellery, gold is an excellent alternative. It's critical, though, to ensure that the gold you chose for your jewellery is at least 14 carat, since anything less might be too soft and contain germs.
